My approach to curriculum design is hands-on and inquiry-based. Students today spend so much time being taught to, rather than participating in their own learning. I believe students should get a little messy. They need freedom to explore and permission to make mistakes. I like learning environments that feel like organized disorder. And if you’ve ever watched a student have an “a-ha” moment with science, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
My most recent curriculum development project has been with iFLY Indoor Skydiving. The K-12 STEM curriculum has served thousands of students at iFLY’s state-of-the-art facilities all over the country. Our goals are to use the exciting context of skydiving to increase student interest and awareness of STEM. We have had overwhelming positive feedback from both teachers and students.
