When it comes to exhibits, I believe that it is just as important for visitors to feel something as it is for them to learn something. The best exhibits make you wonder, make you smile, or make you jump back in surprise. They give you new ways of looking at the world, and new insight into yourself. That emotional connection to the subject matter is essential for getting visitors interested and engaged with science, which is exactly what informal learning institutions do best.
I have experience in all stages of exhibit development, including research, prototyping, writing, alignment to formal education, staff training, and evaluating visitor outcomes.
Projects I have worked on include:
- Tarleton University’s mobile learning unit to increase rural students’ awareness of STEAM careers
- STEM galleries at the Thinkery in Austin, Texas
- The family math exhibit, 123 Geometry Lane, at the Austin Children’s Museum
